1. Purpose

This document sets out The Haven’s current procedures and arrangements relating to Covid-19. It is held as a standing arrangement and is updated in response to any change in UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) or Department for Education guidance.

2. Operating context

The Haven is a specialist online education provision. Learning is delivered remotely, which inherently reduces transmission risk between learners. This shapes our risk profile relative to a physical school.

3. Current position

At the date of this document, Covid-19 is not designated a notifiable disease in the same terms as during the pandemic period. Our current arrangements are:

  • Learners and staff who feel unwell are encouraged to rest and to defer or step away from sessions without penalty. Recordings and follow-up are made available.
  • Staff are not expected to deliver sessions while symptomatic; cover or session rescheduling is arranged.
  • Vulnerable learners or staff (including those who are clinically vulnerable themselves or have vulnerable household members) may request adjustments to in-person attendance at any The Haven event.
  • Hygiene and ventilation considerations are part of the standard risk assessment for any in-person event.

4. Heightened-risk scenarios

In the event of a renewed wave of Covid-19, a new variant of concern, or other significant respiratory illness outbreak, The Haven will:

  • Review and follow current UKHSA and DfE guidance.
  • Issue updated communications to staff and families.
  • Where possible, move any planned in-person activity online.
  • Reinforce expectations that symptomatic learners and staff stay home.
  • Review safeguarding arrangements that may be affected (welfare check-ins for learners we are concerned about).

5. Vaccination

Vaccination is a matter of personal medical choice. The Haven does not require or record vaccination status and does not treat vaccination status as a basis for participation in online learning.
