Governors at The Haven are not distant overseers — they are active stewards of integrity, alignment, and care. They help ensure our provision is safe, ethical, legally sound, and aligned with its founding intentions.

Core Responsibilities

● Hold strategic oversight for The Haven’s educational, ethical and operational direction

● Ensure compliance with statutory duties (safeguarding, SEND, curriculum, data protection)

● Act as critical friends — offering both challenge and encouragement to the leadership team

● Support accountability for safeguarding and wellbeing practices, including regular review of DSL reports

● Monitor the impact of The Haven’s curriculum, pedagogy, and learner outcomes (including EHCP targets)

● Review and approve key policies annually, ensuring they are in line with law and ethos

● Attend governor meetings (termly), with optional involvement in subgroups (e.g. Curriculum, Inclusion, Finance)

● Represent and advocate for diverse perspectives, including parent, learner and community voice

Time Commitment

● Termly strategic meetings (90 mins)

● Occasional working group input (if relevant)

● Reading reports, reviewing policies, and providing asynchronous feedback via shared platforms

Person Specification We welcome governors who:

● Share The Haven’s commitment to inclusion, neurodivergence-affirming practice, and symbolic intelligence

● Have experience or interest in education, governance, social innovation, law, mental health, or community care

● Are willing to learn, reflect, and engage collaboratively

● Can offer both heart and rigour to their role

Governors are inducted with full clarity on safeguarding, GDPR, and whistleblowing. They are invited to hold space — not status — and to co-create the conditions for trust, transparency, and meaningful accountability.
